Professor Rachel Landers

Head of Media Arts & Production and Animation Production, UTS
Professor Rachel Landers is a distinguished documentary filmmaker, writer, and historian with a PhD in history. Since 2018, she has led the Media Arts & Production and Animation Production programs at UTS, blending her rich experience in the film industry with her academic expertise. Her award-winning films have been featured at top international festivals and broadcast globally.
She was recently elected to the council of the prestigious international association of film and television schools CILECT which includes over 180 audio-visual and media educational institutions from 65 countries on 6 continents with 9,000+ teachers and staff that annually train 55,000+ students and communicate with an alumni network over 1,330,000+ strong. As lead chief Investigator she was awarded the multimillion 2025-2027 Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant, The Wonderful, Fluorescent, Massive World of Tiny, Invisible Things: Creating Transformative Science Stories for Children. Her influence has shaped the careers of many aspiring filmmakers.
Rowan Woods

Rowan Woods is an acclaimed Australian screen director, board member of the Australian Directors Guild (VP Feature Film) https://www.adg.org.au/about and Vice President of the IFFCD https://ficdc.org/en/about/#a3 reporting to UNESCO.
Rowan Woods' debut feature film THE BOYS premiered in competition at the Berlin Film Festival and was awarded BEST DIRECTOR at the Australian Film Institute Awards. His second feature LITTLE FISH starred Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving and was nominated for 13 AFI AWARDS. Rowan Woods has also directed many TV and streamed series for which he has been nominated and won several Australian and International Awards including the ADG Award for Best Direction in a Telemovie for THE BROKEN SHORE (2013), Special Jury Prize at Series Mania Paris for THE KETTERING INCIDENT (2016), and a BAFTA for NOWHERE BOYS (2019).
Rowan Woods was Head of Directing at AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School) 2016-2023 and is currently completing a PHD at the University of Technology (UTS) in Sydney.
Matthew Dabner

Matthew Dabner is the Course Coordinator for Creative Production at UTS and a highly regarded figure in both Australian and international cinema. With a distinguished career as a screenwriter, producer, and development executive, Matthew’s credits include The Square and Cedar Boys, both of which have earned industry acclaim. His extensive experience with major screen funding agencies has helped shape the Australian film landscape. At this event, Matthew will share his wealth of expertise to inspire and guide the next generation of filmmakers.
DR. Liam Branagan

Dr. Liam Branagan has over thirty years of professional experience in media production. Liam has worked as a Producer on award-winning short films, which have screened at Berlin, Sydney and other major festivals, and documentaries which have both won awards and been broadcast on television.
Liam has extensive on-set experience as an Assistant Director and Location Manager in Australia and the UK, working in television, feature film, commercials and documentary. He has been teaching in media arts for over fifteen years both at UTS and other film schools. Liam completed his Doctorate of Creative Arts at UTS in 2024. His research investigated narrative forms for 360˚ spaces.
