UTS alumnus leads cloud innovation on the world stage

UTS alumnus Sheng Yeo built his company OrionVM from a humble university dorm-room project to an award-winning multi-national company. Now, he is reaping the rewards from his years of hard work. Yeo has reached new heights of success after OrionVM, a leading next-generation cloud provider, received a Silver Stevie Award for the Most Innovative Tech Company of the Year at The 13th Annual American Business Awards.
The Stevie Awards are presented at multiple awards programs worldwide and recognise outstanding performances in the workplace.
“This award is further validation of the competitive advantage and operational agility we deliver for our partners as well as our partners’ clients in the rapidly growing cloud marketplace,” Yeo said.
OrionVM enables IT solution providers to brand and deploy their own enterprise-grade cloud solution at a lower cost than if they built their own. It is Australia’s largest wholesale next-gen cloud provider and boasts an impressive portfolio of international clientele including AAPT Limited, D-Link, Vodafone and the NSW Government.
"OrionVM has emerged as the compelling third option for the many IT service providers trapped between the high capital investment and technical complexity of building their own cloud versus the thin profit margins and hidden scaling costs of using public IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) retailers," Yeo said.
It’s not bad progress for a company that was born inside the walls of UTS by three 18-year-olds living off $5 pizza.
Yeo graduated from UTS in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and said his time at UTS was crucial in forming a network of key business partnerships.
