Associate Professor Abby Mellick Lopes
Postgraduate design course director Abby Mellick Lopes is a design studies scholar engaged in interdisciplinary, design-led social research and the Director of Postgraduate Design Studies. An award-winning teacher and experienced postgraduate supervisor, Abby’s research advances the critical role of design in addressing the impacts of climate change and promoting the transition to more sustainable cultures and economies.

Professor Martin Bryant
Landscape architecture course director Martin Bryant offers research expertise in urban ecology and resilience that is internationally recognised for policy development. He has received various awards for his work, including the Charlie Challenger NZILA award for his research on resilience. He has exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2021) and authored the United Nations Habitat III policy paper on urban ecology and resilience (2017).

Gerard Reinmuth
Architecture course director Gerard Reinmuth is the inaugural Professor of Practice in the UTS School of Architecture and director of TERROIR, an award-winning Australian architectural practice with offices in Sydney, Hobart and Copenhagen. Gerard’s research spans both architectural practice (including sustainability, procurement practices and larger questions of agency) and research by design.

Leila Moslemi Naeni
Project management course director Leila Moslemi Naeni is an experienced lecturer whose teaching focuses on developing the skills that are needed to manage complex projects and deliver the results. Her research in project management has two broad directions. The first is the project performance evaluation for complex projects that involve a high degree of uncertainty. Her second area of research focuses on improving project management practices using data analytics and new technologies.

Mustapha Bangura
Property development and real estate investment course director Mustapha Bangura is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher with expertise in Property, Finance, Economics, and Econometrics and teaches property portfolio subjects. His work experience includes economic and financial appraisals for private companies and public institutions in Australia and beyond. Mustapha has published in high-ranking property journals and his research revolves around housing affordability, REITs, and the nexus between the housing market and economic fundamentals.

Arezoo Shirazi
Postgraduate Construction Management course director Arezoo Shirazi is a senior lecturer and multidisciplinary researcher with a keen interest in the future of the built environment. As the Director of the UTS Postgraduate Construction Management program, she focuses on preparing students from diverse professional backgrounds to advance their careers in construction. She is a strong advocate for women's participation in the construction industry and their role in driving environmental and social justice in communities, as well as shaping codes and standards.

Shanaka Herath
Planning course director Shanaka Herath has published widely on housing affordability, urban disadvantage and willingness to pay for urban amenities. He regularly teaches urban economics, applied economic analysis and infrastructure funding. Shanaka has received various awards for his work, including the Peter Harrison Memorial Prize for research excellence (2017) and the UTS Individual Teaching Award (2024). He is a Member of the Executive Council of the Australia and New Zealand Regional Science Association International

Mukesh Ray
OPM Planning course director Mukesh Ray is an architect, urban planner, and educator whose interdisciplinary work spans urban planning, geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and environmental sustainability. He brings extensive experience in academic and professional roles, combining expertise in computational GIS, remote sensing, and urban analytics to address pressing urban and regional issues. With a strong focus on evidence-based strategies, Mukesh’s research explores sustainable planning solutions for urban growth, land use transformation, environmental assessment and mitigating urban heat island effects. As an educator at the University of Technology Sydney, Mukesh guides students to critically assess and navigate complex urban issues through a robust understanding of spatial analysis, urban analytics and planning research methods. His teaching is deeply informed by his research and professional planning experience, fostering future planners and designers equipped to implement sustainable and socially conscious planning solutions.

Hera Antoniades
OPM Property Development course director Associate Professor Hera Antoniades is a recognised authority in the fields of Property Development and Real Estate Investment, with a career at UTS spanning many years. She is known for her teaching excellence in specialised subjects such as accounting, taxation, and feasibility, all tailored to equip built environment professionals with the advanced skills and technical knowledge essential for driving progress in the sector. A former recipient of the Design, Architecture and Building Learning and Teaching Award, Associate Professor Antoniades is esteemed by both her students and academic peers. Her research expertise lies in forensic trust accounting and governance compliance within the property and legal professions. Her work has significantly contributed to understanding white-collar crime in trust accounting for property agencies, as well as issues related to property taxation, tenancy legislation, strata management, and occupational licensing.
