Discreet State System Identification: Examples and Bounds

We explore data-driven methods for modelling discrete-valued dynamical systems over networks, such as the spread of diseases, propagation of misinformation, and financial risk correlations. While data is often available, methods to identify relevant mathematical models and network topology are not well-established. Traditional methods focus on continuous-valued systems and asymptotic properties, while recent approaches emphasize sample complexity. In this talk, we will address identifying mathematical models for discrete-valued, discrete-time systems using maximum likelihood estimation, demonstrating consistency conditions and sample complexity bounds, with applications to various examples.
Research Excellence Lecture Series
Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology Research Excellence Lecture Series delivers public lectures, seminars and workshops across the faculty, university and wider community in four broad themes.
Distinguished Professor Lecture Series
The Faculty of Engineering and IT Distinguished Lecture Series, launched in September 2017, is a vital component of the Research Excellence program. The series features captivating lectures presented by esteemed Faculty of Engineering and IT Distinguished Professors, shedding light on cutting-edge research conducted within the faculty. These engaging lectures are open to the public, welcoming industry partners, academics, and students from UTS and other universities to delve into the forefront of knowledge and innovation.
Research Fellowship Seminars
Discover the Faculty of Engineering and IT Research Seminar Series, presented by Fellowship holders. This series fosters research engagement, collaboration, and recognition among the Faculty of Engineering and IT academics, HDR students, and esteemed visitors from outside UTS. Join us across a wide range of data science and engineering disciplines and be part of our vibrant research community!
Early and Mid-Career Research Development Series
These workshops are an integral part of the Faculty of Engineering and IT Research Excellence Framework, which aims to encourage and support early and mid-career researchers, foster talent, and provide them with tools and guidance to achieve research excellence.
