AAII Research Planning Day 2025: Strengthening Industry Collaboration and Funding Opportunities

In 2025, AAII aims to enhance research impact through stronger industry partnerships.
On February 24, 2025, the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII) hosted its annual Research Planning Day, bringing together over 25 academic staff members to strategise and align research priorities for the year ahead.
AAII Research Director, Professor Ling Chen chaired the event, which began with an opening address by the Director, Distinguished Professor Jie Lu. Professor Lu reflected on the institute’s remarkable research growth over the past eight years, including obtaining 45 ARC projects and 110 industry and international projects. She emphasised that AAII’s key focus for 2025 is to enhance research impact through stronger industry collaboration.

Guest speakers from the Research Office and the FEIT Research team provided valuable insights into various funding schemes and opportunities available for AI researchers. This was followed by group discussions, where AAII staff explored funding programs of interest and identified industry sectors they were keen to collaborate with.

To conclude the event, AAII Co-Director, Distinguished Professor CT Lin, delivered a closing speech, sharing his extensive experience in industry translation and successful research partnerships.
