Cara Hegarty
The exposure and learning experience I received was outstanding.
It was certainly a trial by fire for Cara Hegarty when she joined international ‘magic circle’ law firm Linklaters in London after graduating with an LLB from UTS. Her first assignment saw her working on the largest corporate administration deal in history. In 2008, Lehman Brothers Holding Inc., the global financial services firm, announced its insolvency, marking the largest bankruptcy in history.
Cara found herself in the midst of the chaos on her very first day at work. “It was an unprecedented situation; I was learning about the insolvent investment banks alongside partners with decades of legal experience. In fact, I often found myself working closely with senior partners and now know many of them well. The exposure and learning experience I received was outstanding. During the deal, people came together to resolve what was an extraordinary situation, and we did it all under considerable media spotlight. I still find it remarkable that I was part of something so historically significant.”
